Pekin Public Library can not control the information content available through global resources. Technology protection measures are installed on all of the library’s public computers. These filters are designed to block sites with obscenity or child pornography, or are harmful to minors. Filtering software is not a substitute for parental supervision. Parents are expected to monitor and supervise their children’s use of the Internet since the library staff are unable to do so. Library patrons must use the Internet within the guidelines of acceptable use. Violation may result in the loss of library privileges, and illegal acts involving the Library’s equipment may be subject to prosecution.

Library Visits

We welcome your classes to the library! and provide bus grants to cover transportation costs.

Your class will tour the facility, receive instruction in using library services and an age appropriate story-time or book talk. Seasonally, visits can include a tour of the garden.

Studying a specific subject? Come to the library for research help. A librarian will show useful resources and teach students how to find books.

Please call the Head of Youth Services, Catrina Klassen, at least one month in advance
at 309-347-7111, ext 224 or e-mail cklassen@pekinpubliclibrary.org

School Visits

Can’t come to the library?  We will come to your individual classroom, large group assemblies, or school fairs and open houses.  Students will learn about library materials, programs, resources, and cards through storytelling and book talks.

One month advance notice, please.

Long term overdue items will be considered lost. Card holder will be asked to assist in locating them. Misuse of the Teacher Card by an accumulation of lost or damaged materials initiates a barring of the card and a letter to the district office.

Test Proctoring

Students coordinate between their institution and our library. Our Test Proctor will review institutional guidelines before scheduling a test date. (We may not be able to meet technology requirements set by some online institutions.)

–The student is responsible for determining the requirements for, and the materials needed to complete the test
–The student is responsible for emailing the test requirements (given to the student from the school) along with the requested test date to: jolar@pekinpubliclibrary.org AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to testing deadline, to arrange a time, and insure all paperwork can be completed
–The student provides a pre-paid envelope for a written test that requires return via mail
–The student must provide current photo ID, and the name on the ID must match the name on the testing materials
–The student must provide all of the supplies needed to complete the test, including: headphones, pencil/paper, laptop, etc

Test Proctor will enforce time limits and will monitor testing as their library duties allow. The library is not responsible for the content of tests once the test has been sent to the institution upon completion. The library cannot assume responsibility for completed tests that are not received by the education institution deadline. The student should contact the institution to determine if the completed test was received. Tests are proctored during normal library hours.
